At Blackwater, we are committed to preparing our young people for life in modern Britain.

As part of our role as an Alternative Provision, we ensure that our students – who often come from diverse and challenging backgrounds – understand, value, and demonstrate the core British Values that underpin a respectful and cohesive society.

The Five British Values

We actively promote the following values in all areas of school life:

1. Democracy

We encourage student voice through regular feedback, student councils, and participation in decision-making processes.

Our students learn about the importance of democratic systems through SDP, Life Skills, and themed days.

2. Rule of Law

Clear expectations, consistent boundaries, and structured routines are vital in our provision.

We work closely with students to help them understand the reasons behind rules and the consequences of choices.

3. Individual Liberty

Our students are supported in making informed choices about their behaviour, learning, and future pathways.

We promote self-confidence, resilience, and a culture of respect for individual rights.

4. Mutual Respect

Respect is a core part of our school ethos and behavioural expectations.

We celebrate differences and promote respectful interactions across the school community.

5. Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

We provide opportunities for students to explore different cultures, religions, and worldviews.

Through inclusive teaching, assemblies, and community links, we challenge stereotypes and promote understanding.
