House Groups at Blackwater Academy

At Blackwater Academy, all students are assigned to one of our House Groups upon joining the school. Each House Group fosters a sense of community and friendly competition, offering students opportunities to earn points and work together towards shared goals. House Groups are designed to promote teamwork, personal development, and school camaraderie across various aspects of student life.

House Competitions
GOODThroughout the academic year, students compete in a variety of House Competitions aimed at earning points and climbing the House leaderboard. These competitions take place every half term and cover a wide range of activities, ensuring that every student has the chance to shine.
Academic Competitions
Our academic challenges encourage intellectual engagement and teamwork. These include subject-specific competitions, such as quizzes, Super Learning Days, and other subject-based events that help students deepen their knowledge while competing for their House.
Sports & Athletics
In addition to academic challenges, students also compete in sports and athletic events, where their physical skills and team spirit are tested. These competitions promote healthy competition, physical fitness, and sportsmanship.
Earning House Points
Students earn House Points in several ways:
Behaviour Points System
Each student has the opportunity to earn daily points through the Behaviour Points System, which rewards positive actions such as:
• Good behaviour and adherence to school values
• Excellent attendance and punctuality
• Active classroom participation and effort
• Peer support and helping others
In addition to individual points, students’ House Groups accumulate points collectively based on the performance of their members. This fosters a sense of responsibility and encourages students to support each other, contributing to their House’s success.
Individual and House Group Leaderboards
Students can track their progress on two leaderboards: one for individual points and another for their House Group. The individual leaderboard rewards personal achievements, while the House Group leaderboard reflects the collective effort of the entire House. Both leaderboards motivate students to participate fully and encourage a healthy sense of competition.
Building a Sense of Belonging
The House Group system is designed to build a strong sense of community and belonging within the school. Students are encouraged to support their peers, work collaboratively, and take pride in the success of their House. The combination of academic, athletic, and behavioural competitions helps to cultivate a well-rounded experience, empowering students to excel in all aspects of their development.

At Blackwater Academy, the House Group system not only creates a vibrant, competitive environment but also promotes personal growth, teamwork, and a sense of achievement, preparing students for success both in and out of the classroom.
